An evening of Music

Hindustani Classical music on a chilly December evening in the wonderful acoustics of Chowdaiah Hall is always a treat to cherish. Especially when the performances are by Pravin Godkhindi and Pandit Jasraj. Though Pravin Godkhindi's expertise as a flautist is well known, I did not know he had such a wonderful voice, He transported his packed hall of admirers to another level of peace and harmony where the audience though, they were waiting for Pandit Jasraj to take the stage were unwilling to bid goodbye to him. Of course Panditji's reputation goes well ahead of him, and he did not disappoint. At his age, the command and strength of voice is amazing, his breath control and stamina really left you shaking your head in disbelief. It was an evening of riches - of beauty and the treasures of Indian music which can only make one feel proud to have such a vast treasure trove in terms of culture and heritage.

I love winters and all the cultural evenings that we get to enjoy in Bangalore, but on top of the huge number of outings and social dos, we per force have to decline certain programs and due to some work related issues will miss out on the Balamurali Krishna concert...but Dec 17th 2009 was another magical evening to remember.
