Yesterday evening we went to a play "The Lady of Burma" directed by the renowned Prakash Belawadi and enacted by our very dear friend's daughter Rukmini, who brought both her professional dance and acting skills to the fore. It was a hard hitting and strong performance. In fact for quite some time after the play, the somber mood refused to leave us, a testimony that she brought reality and credence to the portrayal of a tragic life of an extraordinary lady. The stark sets and minimalistic approach was just the need for such a play. To carry off a 90min. one act show solo is no mean task and she did it with aplomb.
Its a very serious and depressing story and I felt it could may have been edited a tad more making it a trifle shorter. Such a dark story after a long working day does upset one. Having said that, Ranga and I were engrossed and enjoyed the mastery of both Prakash and Rukku over their mediums. Kudos to both!
