Currently reading this book by Rahila Gupta - its a gut wrenching book on modern day slavery, from human trafficking to domestic abuse and violence...a close look at what we call a 'civilized world' - with all the so - called modernization and technological advancement, the oldest form of one human being treating another in so vile a manner is bone chilling. It only reinforces my belief that humans are the most evil of the animal kingdom and the educated discussions and do-good philosophy etc. is only a thin veneer - it shatters so easily. It is strange that humans are so perverse and despite a thinking mind, or may be because of it, is able to fool himself into thinking that he is superior to other creatures. Selfish, evil and hypocritical - this is one facade of the human nature which is brought out by the book with a series of short docu-stories from across the globe. A must read for any thinking person.
